Default 99 Expe blend door problem

I have a 99 expedition that has an apparent broken blend door. I am trying to locate the blend door actuator but am getting conflicting locations. I've been told it is on top just behind the glove box and also on top behind the radio. Another source has told me it is on the bottom at the center of the vehicle behind the console. Does anyone know where it really is? Thanks for any help. Bart

I had the same problem in my 99 expedition...mine is the eddie bauer 5.4 and it was located behind the glove box. what a PITA to change...the door inside of it is probably warped (thats what it was in mine)

Bart I have a 99 exp and just last year had to change my blender door mechanism. The stem that potrudes out from the door assy and into the motor broke off. The blend door is in a frame and pivots to cover either the heater core or a/c condensor. The motor is located just to the right of the center pedestal area on the bottom. unfortunately all you see is the housing for it. Now comes the bad part. To fix my problem i had to completely remove the dash, yea thats right. It took my brother and i four hours to remove it and three and a half to re-install it. Every where i went to see about getting it fixed quoted me $1500. just to remove and install the dash. The blend door mechanism is only forty five dollars! My brother and i are experienced aircraft mechs with about fifty years experience between us. It was still quite a challenge. I have the shop manuals and we just went page to page to removeit and the same to re-install it. Total cost to me was about nine hours of my time and the forty five dollars for the part. Oh yea, and a six pack of corronas and mcd's. Mine is also an Eddie Bauer but i don't believe that has much bearing on the problem. If you have the climate control system i believe there all the same. This is a quite involved process and unless your fairly mech inclined i would suggest paying someone to do this. Good Luck.
