Air Conditioning stinks

I have a 2007 Expedition with 1800 miles that gives off an offensive sour smell when turning off while driving or starting after vehicle has been parked. The smell is very sour and almost makes your eyes waterhttps://www.fordforum.com/micons/m13.gif. I have had this on older vehicles where, over time, bacteria or something has grown in the ducts but never with a new vehicle.

The symptoms are as follows:

When using theAC,recycle or normal, and you turn off while drivingit produces a sour smell that really bothers the occupants of the vehicle. The smell does dissipate after about 5-10 minutes.

When using the AC and you park, leaving the AC in the on position but not running. You return to the vehicle and the AC starts when the vehicle starts you get the sour smell for about 10-15 minutes.

Answer from the dealer was that I need to turn off the AC 5 min before leaving the vehicle and let the air dry the ducts. OK but this is not an acceptable solution and is not called out in the owners manuals as a possibility with proposed solution. I do not have time to let it air out and donot believeit to be normal operating condition.

Anyone else experience this???

Is there a solution orther than what teh dealer told me...

RE: Air Conditioning stinks

Not sure if the Expedition has a cabin filter or not. If it doesn't, that's the biggest problem as dust and pollen accumulates on the A/C evaporator and provides food for mold and mildew. If it does has a cabin filter, it either needs replaced orhas leak-byand needs corrected/replaced.

Easy cure that I have used on numberous vehicles and is best performed when the vehicle can set overhight or for several hours. Get some LYSOL spray (sent that you can tolerate). Turn the A/C on, place on MAX and fan speed on HIGH. Spray the LYSOL into the air intake under the dash on the drivers side. Continue to spray until you see vapors coming out the vents or your pretty satisfied that the evaperator is saturated with LYSOL. Normally about 1/4 - 1/3 normal size can. Shut everything down immediately and let set over night. This procedure is no permanent cure, but works for quite a while. I normally do this procedure 2 evenings in a row.
