Cold Weather Starting Problem - 2005

Hello!

A couple of mornings this week, I've had problems starting my '05 Expedition. On those mornings, it has been about 25 degrees. This problem has just started as I had it on a ski trip last winter where it got down to -8 degrees on some mornings. It turns over just fine, it just doesn't seem to catch but will after 4-6 tries.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance. This looks like a great site for Ford owners.

Does it start up and run ok after the 5-6 tries or does the engine stumble a bit and then smooth out? Try slightly depressing the accel pedal and see if it will start right away, if so, the IAC is the problem. If not, then could be injectors need to be cleaned or a routine tune-up might be in order. How many miles do you have on it and how has your maintance been?

Thanks for the fast reply, Oldtimer35. I bought it last January with 17k miles on it from a dealer. It now has 34k on it. The dealership supposedly went over everything last year. After it starts it runs fine, although I have always thought that it didn't idle right or that the idle speed was too low.

I will try the pedal suggestion in the morning. What is the IAC?

Thanks again!

Ford sent me a letter in December on my 2005 expedition regarding injectors. Certain VIN's were given additional warranty coverage due to faultyinjectors causing "check-engine" lights and hard-starts. The coverage states its extended to 11 years or 120,000 miles on 2005 5.3L vehicles. Not that this solves your issue, but Ford is obviously aware of injector issues in 05 models.

IAC is the idle air control motor. With that little mileage on it, you shouldn't be having a problem, but, trymy suggestionany way.
