I have had this problem for a long time but before it was the clutch fan. On take off the engine sounds like it is high reving or something. Very loud. I replaced the clutch fan a few times and each time it would go away but now the noise wont go away. It seeme like the vehicle doesnt have alot of take off power either like it used to. Any suggestions? Its a 97 XLT Expedition.

 

Today I took out the air intake and found that it was a bit dirty. I went ahead and drove without it to see if the motor sounded bad still and it did. It sounds like the motor is climbing real high in the rpms to get going and then smooths out but the rpm gauge reads low as normal.
