Fuel Pump

2001 Expedition: is the fuel pump located in the fuel tank? If so, is the only way to change it by dropping the tank? Thanks

Well the fuel tank is mounted under the drivers side inside the frame rail just in front of the real axle. There is a space just above where the fuel pump is located and I am not yet 100% sure if the fuel pump can be pulled out without lower the tank. I have raised the body a few inches and have the ring holding the unit in place loose so far. I will repost more information when I find out this evening just in case anyone else should run into this same issue.

Well yes the tank needs to be dropped. There are 3 straps to be released. Drop down the rear end of the tank with a floor jack or something and you can remove the pump. This should qualify to be on the "Dirty Jobs" show.

If your lucky enough, the tank hadn't been just filled either ;)
