My neighbor has a 1999 Expedition with a problem. It is leaking transmission fluid out of the bellhousing, and a lot of it at that. I filled the transmission back up, taking 4 quarts of fluid to do so, and as long as the car is off, it will not leak. When he turned it on, it did not leak until he started to weakly powerbrake it, then it began pouring out from the inspection hole (I pulled out the rubber grommet to look inside). It poured out enough in 30 seconds to fill a 20 oz soda bottle. I am thinking either the torque converter has a failed weld on it, or the seal between the pump housing and the torque converter has gone bad. Any suggestions. FYI, he uses the Expedition to tow a 2500 lb trailer.
