Spark plug pop out

My spark plug on #3 popped out last night. I tryed to put the plug back in but it would just spin like the threads are stripped. I have read of some other Expedition's popping plugs. Does anyone have any info. on this. Cant find any TSB's. THANK's

I found this in my searching, http://fordcanada.net/Basically dont mess with the spark plugs on a 97 to 04 Ford engine. They even blow out with the original plugs with low miles. Just had it towed to the dealer. Thank god I got the extended warrenty:)

RE: Spark plug pop out

Triton engines are reasonably prone to plug loss.. There's a thread insert/repair for vehicles out of warranty.. Pretty common place repair now, and can be done 'in place'... During a plug replacement, torque/tightening specs should be followed to insure a good hold.. If a plug thread is failing, during aplug replacement would be the time to findout, rather than out on the open road.....

Cousin shattered a plug, during replacement on 05' f-150. Plug-kit (not cheap), 2 friends and 6hours later it was mission accomplished! Not even sparkplugs are meant for the weekend warrior anymore :( At least not on 5.4's

RE: Spark plug pop out

We are researching a new SUV and are interested in a 2007 or 2008 Expedition. In our research on the internet we have found that many people had spark plugs blow out on their Fords, without even having many miles, but it looks as if the latest model year for this problem was 2004. Do you know if the engine has been changed in the last couple of years that remedies the problem with the 5.4 L Triton engine?

RE: Spark plug pop out

I had the same problem with spitting plugs and found my own way to repair the plug. After doing some research and finding out that the Ford Approved Repair kit cost over $100 I went to my local Advance Auto Parts and bought a spark plug repair kit and some JB Weld. I used the tap that came with the kit to resize the hole. Make sure that you blow out the cylinder with air as best you can. Mix up some JB Weld and apply it to the Heli-coil ONLY! Let it cure overnight if possible. Install your new plug and coil and your done. I made this repair on my 97 Expedition 50,000 ago. It has 210,000 miles now. Hopefully this will help anyone out there.
