Default '02 Power Window Help

The front passenger power window regulator/motor of my '02 Explorer XLT (4WD, 4 dr, V6) went bad. I pulled the door panel off and saw that the cables of the regulator were disconnected and battered. Problem is that I cannot find how to remove and reinstall the regulator/motor assembly. Haynes and Chilton manuals avoided the subject entirely.

The biggest problem is the clips on the bottom of the window itself. They appear to be permanently attached & glued to the window. It seems that there are connector clips (metal pieces) that attach the window clips to the regulator. These connect to the window clips with what appears to be a rivet that may need drilled out.

As you can see, I'm going by the seat of my pants here and would like some forum expertise before I screw things up. A local auto glass company is able to make the repair but I thought I'd check in with you all first.

Much thanks for any help.

It will involve drilling out the rivets that connect the window to the regulator. If you feel like you're getting a good deal at the glass shop, let them do it. I've done a few of these rivets and busted a window when my drill went a bit sideways. I had my company behind me when it happened so the customer didn't have to worry about it. Neither should you. There is a chance the glass will break and if I were you, I'd let someone else take the responsibilty.

Thanks for the advice. The window company will do it for $75-$100 if I provide the parts. That's about half of what the dealerships want (about $165).

Regards,

I had the same problem with my back left door and my passanger front side. I also have the chilton book and it didn't help but after a couple of hours I removed it and made one operational. But where the upper part of the cable is a plastic holder and the lower part of the cable has the same. Do not loose those because you can not buy them seperately. Tomorrow I will take off my molding panel and look at it again and write down how I did it. So if you have time I will email you tomorrow. Good Luck

I have the same problem, I am sure this something easy to replace but I will need some intructions. Would you mind providing any instructions? when I removed all the panels I saw that the cable is messed up but it is in one piece. I think that maybe I only need to put it back in place. Ofcourse I don't have a clue how plus the limitation of the space to work sucks as well. Folks any clue how to fix my problem? I have the window up holded with tape.
