Default 06 Explorer hesitates on acceleration

I own a 2006 Ford Explorer Limited, 4,6 V8, 6 speed automatic. Approx. 20,000 miles. It has a very annoying and somewhat dangerous hesitation during acceleration from a stop. It does get better as the vehicle warms up. If the road surface is slippery, the traction control kicks in. I am not hard on the accelerator, just normal pressure. Anybody else that drives the vehicle says: “What’s wrong with this thing??” The dealer said that this is normal for this vehicle, as it has a “fly by wire” acceleration system. No direct mechanical mechanism from the pedal to the fuel injection system. I find it hard to believe that this is normal. I love the vehicle, but this issue is making me consider trading it in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I find it hard to believe that the dealership told you it was normal for a drive by wire system to hesitate. Sounds like your having a problem with the 9E926 throttle body or a reprogramming problem. Take it to another dealer and tell him your concerns. This is still under base warranty and needs to be taken care of. If you don't have anothe dealer in the area, ask you local dealer to have the Zone Manager call you, so you can ask him how that is normal. It will probably get some results. I hate to say it, but some dealers just don't have the sharpest guys working there. [sm=mail.gif]

Hey man, thanks for the quick reply! Great idea, the dealerwhereI bought it at is in another town about an hour away. Well worth it if they can fix this problem. I will let you know how this comes out.

I am having the same issue with my 06 explorer, they are giving me the same "this is normal" response.

Did you get anywhere with this and what was changed/fixed, if any?

Thanks.

Short answer: 'no'. I have not pushed the issue with Ford as I did not drive the Explorer much this winter, keeping out of the salt as much as possible. Actually, the hesitation issue seemed to be worse the warmer it was outside. Do you experience the same behavior? I plan to push it once I start driving it more, which is now... Do you have a V8 Limited with the 6 speed trany? Please let me know if you make any progress. Thanks, B.A.
