Default 1998 ford explorer emergency brake

I need to replace the emergency brake shoes on my 1998 explorer , it has disc brakes in the rear , do i have to take the axle out to do this . Thanks john

Remove the calipers and brackets, then back the adjusters off on the E-Brake shoes and then pull the rotors off. Depending on the shape of the rotors (E-Brake side tends to rust up from NON-USE), you may need to replace the rotors.

Thanks i have done all that , changed a rotor that was bad put it together with out the emergency brake parts . What i was asking in my haynes manual it shows putting the em brake together with the axle out . Can it be done without taking the axle out .

Should not need to take the axle out. Are you sure the picture isn't just a diagram of how the parts in the rear go together? My 97 Explorer Sport used the same setup and I replaced my park brakes without pulling the axles.
