2007 ford explorer

Hi,

I found my front passenger carpet wet on my 2007 ford explorer, not sure where that water came from.

Any help would much appreciated.

Thank you

Three possible causes ,
1. Water leak from outside
2. leaking heater core
3 .air conditioning evap drain plugged

If you eliminate 2 & 3 you can go after #1.
If the heater core is leaking, the coolant level should be dropping and you might get a sweet smell of anti freeze when you operate the heater.
If you used the defrosters or the air conditioning recently and the moisture that collects on the evaporator core cannot drain because the drain is blocked with trash
If the portion below the wipers (Cowl) , has an opening where rain water can enter.it will accumulate under the floormat

If you rent a coolant system pressure tester you can double check if the heater core is leaking.

A leaking heater core will fog up your windshield especially when the defroster is used. Even the slightest leak. Loose/ leaking heater hose connections sometimes can allow some coolant into the passenger compartment. There will be an unpleasent odor noticed in both cases. Since you didn't mention anything else, I would suspect a leak from outside. Spraying lightly with a hose in certain areas may show your leak source. You may have to peel the carpet to look at the floor pan area and to let that dry out before rust sets in..

Or your wiper cowl grille may be clogged up with debris. That was the problem with my 2004 Explorer.

A lot of folks don't think about where they park their vehicle and if under trees where all sorts of "stuff" fall into the cowl area. Good point we often overlook, thanks.
