93 Electrical Problems

Hey Guys, I'm new here and have a couple problems. I have a 1993 Explorer Limited and its got some issues. The power locks don't work (I have tried changing the fuses), and the dome light doesn't work (I have tried replacing the bulb with no luck). Also, the 4-Wheel drive doesn't activate whe I press the button. What can I do to attempt to solve these problems? Thanks in advance!

Edit: Also, the mid-brake light doesn't work and I have changed the bulbs.

[sm=welcomesign.gif][hr]Try the relay for the door locks I think it is in the power distrubtion box under the hood.[hr]The dome light is a little tricky there is a screw that grounds the dome light assembly with the light on try to turn the screw back and forth and tighten it to make a better ground for it.(With the light on)[hr]If the 4 wheel drive light comes on and you do not hear the motor engage you may have faulty wiring or a bad motor.I would check the connection by the motor by the transfer case.

Thanks for the quick response! I'm not too experienced with the electrical side of cars so how do I go about checking the relay? And with the 4x4 there is no response what so ever when I press the button. The 4x4 light doesn't come on and you can't hear the motor engaging.

There is a black box under the hood usally mounted over one of the inner fender well's open it and you will see relay's and fuse's also check your owners manual there may be a fuse or relay for the 4x4 in there.

According to my owners manual there is no relay for the power locks in the power distrubition box under the hood. Could it be somewhere else?? Thanks again.

Does the owners manual say anything about the relay being on the inside fuse compartment?

According to the owner's manual, there is nothing for the power locks on the inside fuse compartment either. The relays in the power distribution box(under the hood) are: Heater Blower Relay, A.B.S. System Relay, A.B.S System Relay, A/C W.O.T. Relay, Fuel Pump Relay, and E.E.C. Power Relay. Any other ideas as to how I might be able to fix the locks? Thanks again.

I would get a test light and pull the switch pannel to check for power.[hr]If no power is found you will either have a open short(broken wire)Or you will have a blown fuse or relay.[hr]If you have power at the switch press the button and check the oppsite side of the switch.[hr]No power there it's a bad switch.[hr]If you have power at the oppsite side of the switch you will have to go into the door panels to check for power,
