96 Explorer EGR Confusion
Hi everyone. This is the first Ford I've owned so I'm kinda iffy on their quirks.
I've got a 96 Explorer control trac 4.0. It's running alittle rough and returning back code (can't remember number) "Insufficient EGR Flow". I've Had two
different Ford techs tell me two different things. One said it was the EGR valve or the connected lines clogged or dirty and that I should try cleaning it out
before I replace it. The other said it was the EGR Sensor. I'm wondering if this is a common problem *like the idle air control valve* and the sensors to
blame. If not I was wondering what would be the best thing to clean out the egr and lines. Would it be better to use something like intake/tb cleaner or
just compressed air? Thanks!

I had the same problem with my wifes 2000 windstar. I replaced the throttle position sensor (TPS), did not work. The engine still ran rough. I then took off the IAC Idle Air Control mechanism, cleaned it with gumout and put it back on the car. The Metal piston looking part was not moving freely due to carbon buildup. This solved the problem. However, since the van had 110,000 miles on it, I chose to get a new IAC from the dealer a month later.
Hope that this helps.
