98 explorer sport heater control valve

Have noticed a persistent burning antifreeze smell and loss of coolant over time. Found that the heater control valve drips occasionally and even spurts antifreeze on the exhaust manifold at times. I replaced it a while ago with a knockoff part. Could it be that it is just inferior? Do they all leak at times?

RE: 98 explorer sport heater control valve

Try buying a Motorcraft part to replace it. The part should not leak, no matter who makes it. I have repeatedly had my whole clients complain about the parts from Auto Zone and the like, either not fitting correctly or not lasting very long, but they were cheaper. My question has always been, what is your time worth, when you do the job for free, two and three times. Yes, I sell Ford parts, at a Ford Dealership. But I also deal with independent shops and listen to them complain the the quality of the aftermarket part, or lack of it. [sm=mail.gif]

Good call on the Autozone part, that's where I bought it. I have a Motorcraft valve now and will put it in soon. I agree about the OEM vs knockoff parts. Like a good paintbrush, it makes a big differencebetween a 1 dollar and 10 dollar brush, and I should have known better.
