99 Explorer 2 wheel drive

I would like to do the work myself, don't want to pay shop fee's. I have a popping sound in my front end when I turn my wheels, doesn't matter if I'm moving or at a stop. And also have a a weird kinda sqweaking/rattling sound or metal on metal sound when I hit a pot hole or bump. I have already replaced the shocks/struts and have done upper and lower ball joints which have gotten rid of some of my noises and problems. Any help or advice would be really helpful and appreciated.
Thanks ahead of time,
Jeff

What have you checked so far?
Power Steering?
Ball Joints?

I would try to narrow down the noise if possible.

Leave car on gound and have your wife/friend/etc sit in the cab and turn the wheel while you listen at front end.

Jack front end up in the air so you can get underneath and listen closer if you need to....could be steering...but try to narrow it down.....could be a broken bolt somewhere...

Jump on the front bumper of car.....bounce up and down to try and recreate noise from pothole.....might need a large buddy to help...or the two of you at the same time
