cant shift

ok I have 2003 explorer 4.0 flexfuel I cant get it to come out of park . I took off the colom cover and found a little silver pin that if I push it down with a screwdriver I can shift gears. Is that the nuetral safety switch? and how do I change it. thanks

This neutral safety switch is mounted on the tranmission. That could be the shift interlock pin, but that is not the problem. There is a shift interlock solenoid mounted on the column that pushes that pin, it is electrical. Check for voltage to it. If no voltage, then check your fuses, if you have voltage, the replace the solenoid.
