Front end clunk

I get a "clunk" sound in the front, when I hit bumps in the road. I was told that it comes from, don“t know the english word for it, the arm that is under the spring and holds the wheel. I have also been told that the only way to get rid of the clunk is to replace this arms. In my country (sweden) they cost $900/pair and then you have to do the job your self. Is there any way to get rid of the clunk in a easier and less expensive way??
