Help with Buying 2008 Explorer

I am considering buying a 2008 Explorer. My only reservation is that I have been reading about the transmission problems they have had in the years up to 2008. Did Ford redesign the 2008 Explorer transmission or recall it, in order to elminate the failures they were having?
