stuck in 4th, 93 manual explorer
i need some positive feed back here but i know the news could be grim... anyways so i'm trying to get on the high way and have a difficult time getting in to 4th ... i'm not trying to force it in or anything but it wont go so i know something is wrong, i figure i'll just avoid 4th for right now and deal with later, anyways once i get off to high way i attempt to get in 4th one more time figuring i was just doing something wrong and it goes in no problem. i'm pretty happy... then i try to shift out of 4th and its a no go.... i'm hoping its bent forks but i fear it could be siezed, also there was a vibration orinially in third gear prior to shifting. any ideas?

RE: stuck in 4th, 93 manual explorer
While your driving in 3rd(3rd gear spinnning) and try to shift into 4th(4th gear freewheeling) you have to match the speeds of 3rd and 4th. That's the job of the syncos. When you were sitting still 3rd gear is NOT spinning so 3rd and 4th do NOT have to be syncronized and it slides in without the help of the syncro. If 4th or its' detents are damaged you may be able to get into 4th(when stopped), but not back out. Come on, you already know you have to tear it apart to get to 4th gear. Why are you asking this question? You know it has to come out and it ain't goin to fix itself.
