Replace Serpentine Belt

How do I replace the Serpentine Belt on my 2002 Ford Explorer V6?

RE: Replace Serpentine Belt

Fairly simple job...

On the belt tensioner, out close to the belt pulley(black arrow) there is a square slot for a 3/8 drive.. Genrerally you can insert a ratchet (longer 'flex head' type work well), or short 3/8 breaker bar into the tensioner slot.. Rotate CCW to take the tension off the belt and slowly release the hold on the bar/ratchet.. Then just feed a new belt over the drive components as show below.. Your 'belt routing' will/should be shown on the underhood decal as well.. Once in place, then repeat the belt tensioner load.. You can buy a tensioner tool, but most times you can improvise with basic tooling....
