Rotted oil dipstick tube.

Have a 97 XLT 5.0L and cannot find an oil dipstick tube. T o.o damned cold to be changing oil on the ground every 3,000 miles. Would like to check my oil rather than changing the oil just because I have no idea as to how much is in the system or its condition. Ford, in its infinite wisdom, changed the tube design in 98 and discontinued producing the one that fits. Anyone know of any in decent shape?
