Speedometer Reading
Hello Everyone,
I have a 1998 Ford Explorer, Eddie Baeur 4x4 and I have noticed that every time that I drive towards the active speed signal in my hometown, the reading on the signal is about 4 mph less than what the speedometer reads in my explorer. I have a feeling that my speedometer indicates that I am traveling at a faster speed than I actually am. Have any of you notice this problem with your explorer? I checked out the tires, and they're stock: 255/70 R16. Is there any way to make sure that the speedometer is giving me the correct reading? Thanks in advance.
Best,
Eric

the most accurate way to check your actual speed is to drive for several miles on a road that has the miles marked, and time yourself over a distance...and convert to MPH...
that being said, if your tires are worn close to the wear bars, you will see a slightly higher speedometer value than when the tires are new...
