Stupid brakelights!!!

Today on my 2003 ford explorer my brake lights stayed on. I checked all the fuses and owners manual but cannot find what the problem is. has anyone else had this problem that could shed some light on my stupid situation. it is a 2003 all whell drive 4.6 with 67,000 miles on it.

i had to take the positive battery cable off today so my batt would not die..

i need help!!!!!!!!!!![&:]

RE: Stupid brakelights!!!

Welcome to the site..

Sounds like a problem with the brake pedal position switch.. It's mounted to the brake pedal arm under the dash.. Should be a 2 wire connector there on theswitch.. 12V should only be on the LG/RD wire on the switch connector without the brake applied.. When the brake pressure is applied, the switch closes andthe Green wire will then have 12V as well.. If you have 12V at both wires on the connector without applying the brake, then the switch is bad or hung up..
