Default tach wire

I just finished installing a viper car alarm/remote start system in my 2004 explorer XLT. Alarm functions work great, but I can't find the tach wire to hook up the remote start. Can anyone give me any useful advice as to where I might make a connection to it. I could wire out to the ignition coil, but I would like to find a lead for it under the dash or instrument cluster for ease and preserving the integrity of the firewall. Thanks in advance.

it should be attatched to the distributor...but it may also be involved with the ECU, in which case it could prove to be very difficult...

you will need to go to the uncommon side of a fuel injector for your tach wire. Sorry to say it but you'll have to go through the firewall.
