Washer Motor?

"96' Explorer front washer doesn't work. Theres no sound at the motor, I checked the fuses & can't find any blown. Is there a way to check if the motors bad before spending $ on a new one? Thanks

RE: Washer Motor?

Check for voltage at the motor connector with a test light or voltmeter, have someone else push the washer switch. Chances are you will find no voltage, these switches fail commonly. You may also have turn signal or interval wiper issues. High resistance in the switch causes inop or intermittent operation. If this is the case you will need the multi function switch.

If you find power to the motor, check the other side of the connector for a good ground. I have found several with a broken ground wire behind the washer reservoir.

If it's the switch, where's it located, or are you talking about the actual lever on the steering colum?

Or you could just have a bad motor. I had the motor fail on my 97 Sport. I had voltage at the motor, but no spin. The motor was all rusted up inside.

The lever is part of the switch. Remove the upper column trim to access the switch assmbly.

I never use the rear washer, are the motors the same, if so can I just swap them?
