Weird Issue
 

I am having some problems with an Explorer that I bought at an auction. Originally it wouldn't start, there were no gauges except for an airbag light (though the headlights, turn signals, hazards all showed up). After changing the starter relay, I was able to get it started off the key without jumping the solenoid. However, after starting the vehicle, I still have no gauges, as well as, the engine will not rev. It will idle after being started, but it will not rev up when the accelertor is pressed. When I checked the OBD II it gave me p2104 and p2112. A bad TPS or dirty MAF might be the issue for why it wont rev, but I am still wondering about the gauges, and whether it would effect them as well. Anyone have any ideas that might help, please let me know. Thanks.

I am new to the forum just the other day because I ran into the same 2 codes with my 2005 explorer; (P2104 & P2112) I disconnected the battery temporarily to in order to install a wiring harness for an electric wench. After reconnecting the battery the truck started in "safe mode." Same symptoms as you. Long story short, I disconnected intake boot from the throttle body with ignition on and manually operated the throttle plate inside throttle body in attempt to manipulate engine RPM. Since the throttle body is electronically controlled it was the only way I could figure out how to raise the RPM out of "Safe mode." The truck was not running when I did this but the ignition was on. Give it a try. It worked for me. I owned this truck from brand new and never had a problem until this and it was a weird fix. I hope it works for you.

I gave it a shot, but still no throttle, and no gauges. Does safe/limp mode turn your gauges off too? The other part is that a bunch of my interior stuff doesn't work either, like power windows and radio, but my power locks and windshield wipers do. I am not sure what to check next, and am wondering if instead of a problem to fix, maybe I have 6 sepeate problems to fix. Any help?

What year is your Explorer ?

It's a 2005 with a 4.0l sohc, 4x4. I am changing out the throttle body motor today, and if that doesn't work, I am getting it scanned by the dealership tomorrow. When I find out what they saynis wrong, I will post it in the event someone else runs up on the same problem.

this might sound stupid but chech the fueses including the ones under the hood. The other day I hosed my explorer's motor down at the car wash and couldn't make it home after words. It didn't have any power/torque for any kind of grade but went on flat land. It turned out to be a fuse went under the hood that protects numerous things including the torque convertor, o2 sensors, and a few other things. Couldn't believe ford would put so many things on a 15 amp mini fuse but they did. Oh the reason for the fuse going was the one o2 sensor had bare wires which shorted. And it also threw numerious tranny malfuction codes.
