Default $19,995 a fair price for a 2004 Ford Lightning with 73,000 miles?

Long story short, I've never financed a car. Both cars I've ever owned I paid for outright. I'm 26 and want to buy something I actually want this time around. My car was totaled out during Hurricane Harvey.

I'm looking at putting $3,000 down and doing either a 3 year or 5 year payment plan. It really depends on what the monthly note will be.

Is that a reasonable price? Should I try to talk him down? (Obviously I should, but what should my talking down points be?)

ANY advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the site..

Not 'high' but you should be able to find one with that mileage for 2kish lower value. Lot of variables here,, financing rate offered, condition, location, private party financed//dealer offerings. Dealer can provide financing (rate dependent) more overhead, so generally the asking price tend to be higher but they certainly have some room to move on a trade in. I'd grind on them, if the truck is exactly what you want, negotiate your best deal.

Just bought a 2017 F250.
My 05 F250 was extremely clean in/out and needed nothing. Trade in,, they wanted to give me 9k (multiple dealers) Book was 12-14+ but ranged between Kelley and NADA, NADA being higher into the high teens. I sold it in 4 days for 15,500.00. I'm sure if it had ended up on their lot even after inspection/cert. it would have been priced at my selling value. I'm sure they have some wiggle room....
