1991 F-150 leaking water/antifreeze and dead
 

Hi, my husband's 1991 f-150 decided to die on him this morning. It started leaking water, I think around the engine block.

This morning, it overheated on my husband and then died, right in the middle of the road, apparently still leaking antifreeze/water. What could be the problem with it?

My husband thinks it could be the head gasket. I just would like to know what other people think it might be and if they have any suggestions.

I'm guessing it's a 5.0? How manys miles?

I'd hope it wasn't driven/overheated to the point of shutting down.. Died as is quit running,, not locked? Does it 'now' start and run after cooling down? Best thing to do would be to fill the system again and verify the leaks origin.. Could be freeze plugs, water pump, rad/heater hoses, heater core, radiator, possibly head gaskets/manifold but aren't a high failure especially on a good/clean system.. Heat the engine back up to operating temp, then shut it down (heat/pressure will rise) and use an inspection mirror, and/or raise the truck up and have a look from the bottom side up. Sometimes its easier to follow a leak up, than down.. or a ombination of.....

150000+ miles. Stalled on hubby when he stopped at light. Don't think it's locked up. It'll crank, but won't turn over. We know it's not the water pump, it's not the hoses. Hubby thinks it's either the heater coil or freeze plugs...least ways that's what a buddy of hubby's told him this morning.

I think it's the head gasket, which isn't too terribly difficult to do, but still a pain in the butt. Anyway, thanks for the reply!
