2001 F150 shifts hard

My 2001 F150 shifts hard, especially during the hot summer months. There is a TSB, but it just says that this happens with the 5-spd Mazda R2 manual tranny. Before I take it to the dealer, is there anything anyone can tell me about what might cause it and how to fix it?

I also have a 2001 F150--4.2--5 speed--113K. I have found that sometimes it is hard to get from Neutral into any gear when at a dead stop. You mentioned that Ford issued a TB for this.....did it provide a fix for this ?? I hope someone has some information to share on this one.

No one knows what the problem is. I finally took it to the dealer and he suggested that it needs new synchronizers. This is his best guess because I didn't have the tranny removed. He estimated a $2,000 repair bill (parts and labor). I dumped the truck. Let someone else worry about it. Ford has been using this particular manual tranny for a very long time. I had a 1993 Ranger with the same tranny, and the same problem. They won't do anything about it because Ford owns Mazda, so they get their trannys cheap. Okay, I can fix that. I bought a Toyota. Screw Ford.
