2001 F150 Super Crew Trans Problems

I have owned this truck for a few years. Great truck, never had any issues until now. Driving down the road and i seemed kinda like the e-brake was on (But it wasn't) and heard a light noise (sounded like a break pad as hung just a little louder) so i pulled over and had it towed home. Well i was driving it around my subdivision trying to ID the noise a little better. So it seemed to make the noise only when there was pressure on the drive lines. but Sounded like it was coming from the transmission. I started running through the gears (Auto 4r70w trans) and noticed it made a bad grinding noise when you pulled it down into 1st gear. Pulled it back into my garage and decided to to a trans flush and noticed the ATF line that feeds from the trans to the transfer case was broke and there wasn't alot of trans fluid in the transmission. When i dropped the pan there was chucks of metal shavings. Does anyone have any idea on what could be or probably is broken? Im not a Mechanic by any means but dont want to pay $1,600 for a complete rebuild if it only needs a sun gear, Etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There are two problems here,
If you are not equipped to do trans removal and repair and you decide to tackle that job, you could get into some deep **** !

Metal shavings and filings have now circulated throughout the trans and valve body.
You might consider a salvage yard replacement , and it might come with some kind of guarantee , but all that STUFF has to be flushed out of the trans cooler and lines or the replacement could go south on you and the guarantee goes out the window, worst of all the job has to be done over again, and that is no fun ! Get several estimates so you can make a good decision.
