1992 f150 4x4 shift tube / AOD trans
Recently, reverse has been kind of sporadic. Seems better when cold. Yesterday, shift tube appears to have broken.
Just wondering if there's the slightest possibility that a failing shift tube could have been causing the problems with reverse.
Still needs ball joints, upper and lower, and finances are literally non-existant.
Am I nuts to keep throwing money at the old girl?
She plows great and just got the plow rebuilt, extra-heavy alternator, new brake lines, etc. Can't afford a new one, so I at least know what this one needs.
Sounds like the shift tube is something I can do, but should I?
Any input would be appreciated!

Update
Replaced the shift tube today. Easier than expected.
Can't get it into reverse or park without lots of fiddling. (No worse than before shift tube and plunger broke into 5 or 6 pieces. lol)
Isn't there some way to adjust the linkage?
Or maybe it's something with the cable?
Help please... Input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

If you follow the linkage down to where it goes into the tranny there is a little plastic piece over the linkage that pops into a link that is on the tranny. That plastic piece wears out and can make it tough to get into the proper selected gear. Give that a look if you haven't already.
