2018 f-150 bad front shocks or are the struts bad?
When I first bought this truck the right front strut was bad and it was replaced under warranty. I am now at 35k miles and I suspect there is a problem with the front left suspension. I am seeing mini-chunk outs on the tire and my ride isn't that smooth. I am wondering if I need to replace both the shock and strut or just the strut. Looking at the diagrams of the strut assembly it doesn't appear there is much that could go wrong with it (maybe I am not seeing it though). It appears the shock is mounted inside the strut. I think I can handle replacing the shocks myself but I am not too confident in replacing the strut.

Special equip is required and strongly suggest you have a shop with the tools and equip replace the struts. They should always be replaced in pairs.
Get some estimates , then decide what you want to do. |
bad strut
I bought the whole assy. (shock and spring)it was fairly easy to replace and didn't require any special tools.

Didn't know you wanted to go the full route, but that was a wise way to go.

Cheaper than paying the labor to have a shop install only the failed part.

Don't forget to have the alignment checked. Anytime new parts are installed as you did , the front end alignment should be checked ,most times it will need to be corrected.
