400 ci more HP and torque

I have a 77 ford 4x4 with 400 under the hood. 3 speed with granny low. Was wondering what anyone recommended for more HP? wanted to do a intake and carb swap. Currently i have a 2bbl carb on it i wanted a 4bbl carb on it for more power. What do you think is a good swap for more HP and torque? Is anyone selling anyparts that would work? Thanks

Can't go wrong with Edelbrock or Holley.

A cam would wake that engine up a bit, too.

I looked at some Edelbrock intakes thru Jegs but i dont know what one i need?? And what cam duration should i get?. My current intake is 2bbl and i think i have 2v heads?? Will a 4bbl intake and carb bolt right up to it? And what does non EGR mean? Thanks

EGR is Exhaust Gas Return. It is an emissions feature in newer cars. Your engine does not need it.

You can get a 4bbl carb and intake that will bolt right up to it.

You'll have to do a little research as to what you need. For example, are you looking to use this off road, in the mud, on the highway, towing, ect.? And then how much of each do you plan to do? That will give you an idea of what you should start to look for. If you plan to drive it as a daily driver, never tow, and occasionally go off road then you don't want too wild of a cam. However, if it is going to be a staight mud runner than you can get a little more nuts. Once you decide what you want to do with it, then you can research cams and they will usually give you a brief decription of what type of power to expect and what applications they work for. If not, call the dealer and ask for a recommendation for a starting point. Jegs and Summit are good for a bit help of like that (they could help point you toward intakes and carbs, too).

Hope that helps.

Ok cool thanks. I will be primarly using it as a daily driver in the winter and doing some off-roading. In the spring and summer i will be using it more off-road. Kinda funny thing. I went out yesterday looking around for parts and stuff in my car. I came back home and started my truck it was acting up sounded like it had an exhaust leak on pass side. Under heavythrottle just parked it would spit and studder almost cutting out. I said wtf now what?? My friend was with me and said when was the last time you changed your wires and plugs? I said about 2 years or so ago. So went to the store to get plugs wires cap and rotor and fuel filter. To make a long story short 2 of my wires were fried and 1 was not even hooked up. Put fresh wires and etc in and now she just perrrs like a cat. Blip the throttle and instant responce. Its like i have a whole new engine lol. Just need to get a temporary driveline for now

That's one way to get more power... ;)
