82 f-150 running rough
 

Please help. can anyone tell me why my engine seems to miss really bad just above idle when accelerating, then smooths out beyond that? I have a 302 2bbl. I have done a complete tune up and checked and repaired vacuum leaks. What else can i do ? Thanks for any help.

What happens when you just put it to the floor? And do you still have all the emmisions stuff on the engine?

I would try a couple simple things first. I assume you replaced the cap, rotor, plugs, wires etc. Maybe next try the fuel filter ( not likely but cheap and simple). It sounds like the carb may need torn apart and cleaned. Those old two barrels are simple and easy to rebuild. Usually alot of tarnish build up over the years gets loose in the carb bowl and upon accel goes to the accel pump jets and partcially clogs causing hesitation. If you do clean carb go to part store and get the cleaner in the gallon can and let all the parts sit in it for a few hours. Hope this may help. let us know what it was.

When i put it to the floor it smooths out. No emmissions on the truck now.When you accelerate enough to start off is when it acts up.

You could try running some carb cleaner, Sea Foam, etc. in the gas tank for a bit to see if that cleans it up. It may save you the trouble of having to take the carb off and apart.

Another thing you should try is with the engine running spray something like carb cleaner, starting fluid, etc. around the top and base of the intake and listen to the engine. If it accelerates then you have a leak and need new gaskets. Also, with the engine running remove the plug wire from each plug one at a time and listen to the engine. It should stumble when you pull each wire off. Put the wire back on before moving to the next plug. Each one should cause a stumble in idle, if not you need to do a compression test.

my old 82 150 overheated the other day and now it runs and idles rough. the idle is low and it stalls. never happened before. anybody have any advice for me? there's no oil in the rad and exhaust seems to come up through the carb.

Might be time to do a compression test.
