351 f-150?
I'm getting an early 90's model T-bird before long that has a a 289 HI-PO out of a 66 mustang in it. I think I'm gonna keep it for a toy, or, put it in a ranger.
I'm also looking for an F150 for an everyday driver. I'm especialy partial to the pre-1980's model F series trucks, problem is I'm a little leary getting another one due to the gas prices. We had a 77 F-350 custom with the 400, 4spd w/granny gear. and it got horrible gas mileage. most of the ones I've found around here have the 351c, 351M, and 351w motors in them.
I have a friend who's willing to sell me his 1989 F150 longbed 300 6, 5spd. for cheap. but like I said I'm more partial to the 60's and 70's models.
my question is this, can anybody give me a rough estimate of what the gas mileage would be for an f150 with a 351 motor?
(sorry for such a long winded thread starter)

There are a lot of variables that effect the gas mileage. A transmission that has OD vs. one that doesn't, a manual vs. an automatic, gearing, tire size, how the truck is driven, highway vs. street, etc. With that being said, I think you can estimate that an F-150 with a 351 will get anywhere between 8-14mpg.
Leaving the truck in 4wd with the hubs unlocked will noticibly reduse the gas mileage by a few mpg. The same goes for leaving the hubs locked when the truck in not in 4wd.
Hope that helps.

ok, well, I could still talk the wife into it, IF, the T-bird gets decent gas mileage. lol maybe. lol
so if I could find one with a 351, standard, 2wd its likely that I could get decent gas mileage, at least as far as 70's model ford trucks go. lol*******
