Airbag light on Code 2 1

HI, My 2004 crewcab f150 airbag light flashes 2 1. I found a chart that reads code 21 means (diagnostic monitor not mounted to vehicle properly) I have disconnected battery taken out fuse checked all connection still flashes 21. It also reads its the passenger side... Does anybody no where the Diagnostic Monitor is located on a 04 f150 crewcab or how you clear the code so it resets. And also this just happened one day when I turn on the truck no accidents no airbags popped out.....THANKS

the airbag module does a diagnostic system check once every start up. if the system passes, the light stays off. if the system fails, the light comes on. it will do you no good to clear the diagnostic code as it will just test itself at the next start up...fail and reset the warning light. the only way to clear this light is to fix the problem.

Thanks but I already knew all that, I needed to know what actually I'm supposed to check cause the reason I found, That the diagnostic monitor not mounted to vehicle properly doesn't make sense, Their has to be something else I'm missing. Thanks to any body that can Help

not sure where you are getting your information; a diagnostic monitor is software programming that is used to run the system tests.

if you are looking for the restraint control module it is located between the 2 front seats under the center console.

If you post a dtc from a scan tool I can troubleshoot that diagnostic. Unfortunately, I have no access to diagnostic information for flash codes.

I have found most the info on this site, That's why I registered to get some direct info, So I'm guessing the diagnostic monitor and the R,C,M are the same thing which I did find it, But what do all the web sites and on this site mean when they say;.... (Restraint Control Module NOT mounted to Vehicle Properly).... This is the same answer I seem to end up with on all the sites but my RCM is clean and bolted down so their most be something else they are referring to. Thanks

2004 f-150 airbag diagram

Does anybody know where the airbag pinpoint K is on a 2004 f150 crewcab or do you know a site I can find the wiring diagram for the airbags ANY HELP ANYBODY!!.....Thanks

hanky 08-10-2015 04:58 PM

I'm a little late on this one, but could you please tell us where you obtained the description for the code B2293? It is possible there may be some confusion regarding the info. The info I checked states something along the lines of a circuit failure. Pinpoint tests are usually pursued only after certain preliminary tests are conducted and then directed to go to particular pinpoint tests. Thanks

Cleve 08-10-2015 05:22 PM

These are the codes I have, and I found the same codes online it said to go to pinpoint test K. The code 21, only suggest the rcm is not mounted to vehicle properly Which it is.... So I wanted to know where the pinpoint K was located so I could check it to see if it might help. what do you think I should check?. Thanks

hanky 08-10-2015 06:11 PM

The checks that I made suggested a circuit failure in the passenger side air bag system. It didn't state anything regarding the monitor mtg.

primem 08-10-2015 09:37 PM

I have read through pinpoint test k and it is long, confusing and potentially dangerous. the testing wants short, grd and resistance checks of airbag circuits. I have a problem recommending that to non professionals.

Cleve, was the code obtained with a scan tool from your truck? if so were there any descriptors digits after the code? ie b2293 01

hanky does ford use load tools for testing airbags circuits? This method is used by other manufactures and takes the guess work out of diagnosis.

the load tool has the same resistance as the air bag. the load tool is plugged into the harness in place of the air bag. if the dtc now clears, the problem is the airbag. if the code is still present you know the airbag is ok and you plug in at the next connector closer to the air bag module... continuing until the dtc clears. when it clears you have located the problem circuit.

there are 2 ways to clear this code:

1. if the problem is not present at the key on state of health check; the system will clear the air bag light itself

2. a scan tool to clear air bag dtc. if the problem is present after clearing, it will reset immediately at the key on state of health check.

so if you start the truck and the light still there; clearing the dtc with a scan tool is useless.

no but definitely tighten up the loose connection.

hanky 08-12-2015 03:32 AM

Some systems have what is called an occupant detection system. It may be part of that.

Cleve 08-12-2015 08:48 AM

So I'm guessing you guys don't have any ideals???? Could a person change the RCM with another one? I read some where you cant do that or can you? Thanks

hanky 08-12-2015 02:20 PM

Can't say if the battery post condition is causing or part of the problem, but when we see something that "could" cause a problem it is best to correct it and move on from there.
It wouldn't be the first time something like that threw a monkey wrench into the mix.
You are at that point where special equipment is necessary to determine the problem and it's cause. There is just so much you are able to do without the right test equip.
You will need to bite the bullet and have a shop with the necessary equip troubleshoot and find the problem. Throwing parts at a problem can get more expensive than having a qualified shop check it out.

Cleve 08-12-2015 05:29 PM

If I were to find out if there was any other code descriptor digits what would they tell me?

primem 08-12-2015 07:33 PM

I will check into it at identifix. I will get back to you on the weekend. I don't fix fords daily. If it was a gm product I could tell you.

unfortunately getting good diagnostics at shops is all about the car going to the right technician. when you go to a shop. ask for there best tech, even if you have book at a later date to wait for this person.

primem 08-15-2015 03:44 PM

i pm'ed you some stuff.

Cleve 08-21-2015 02:24 PM

Should get my part today to test.....

Cleve 08-22-2015 03:38 PM

I tested the passenger airbag no change code still 21??

primem 08-22-2015 07:42 PM

then keep moving up the wiring harness; to the next connector.
