another cruise control issue ('92 F-150)
I've read all the posts on CC, but did not see the answer to my question. My CC turns on, works, but won't disengage when I press the brake pedal. As soon as I let off the brake the speed surges back up. Obviously this is a dangerous situation. I can turn it off by pressing "off" on the steering wheel. Is this a vacuum line issue, or is there a switch on the brake pedal that is not working properly?

Anyone....Anyone?
Bueller....Bueller? |
How hard did you press the brake. I can remember my '90 F-150 wouldn't turn of if you "rested" your foot on the brake, but would if you gave it a good tap.

There is a switch , part of the stoplite switch assy., that when depressed opens the circuit holding the cruise control active. Seems that switch is not opening when the brake pedal is depressed. Check this out first .

Thanks Hanky. Where would I find the switch? On the upper arm of the pedal, or is it somewhere up in the dash?

I found this on another thread:
"If it's the connector at the front of the master cylinder, attached to the aluminum, it's the Brake on/off switch. It's used by the cruise control to let it know to disengage when you step on the brake. If it's disconnected, your cruise control should not be working." Would I be correct in assuming this is what you are referring to? |
