Belt squealing
Ever since I finished my 351 swap I've had a problem with belt squeal. I have a new tensioner pulley, new water pump, new smog pump eliminator pulley, new idler pulley, new alternator, and new power steering pump. When I start the engine, the belts screeches and the voltmeter isn't reading a charge. When the squeal does go away, it will read 14.6 also if I connect my big battery charger to the battery and turn the amp selector from maintenance/trickle up two clicks to 40amps, the squeal goes away and then I can disconnect the battery and I can drive off and not get a screech until I shut off the engine and try to restart...https://www.f150forum.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

When the engine is started, amp load/ delivery is high and settles down with initial run time. Potential for alt drag is at the highest then as would be squeal. My guess would be that the belt length is off causing less than spec tensioner load, or, the delete belt angle is off. Less likely though. The other thing may be who’s belt. Some serpentine belts have deep V’s others shallow and flat nosed. Total belt contact may come into play, or a combination of belt and its tension.. If you add in as much electrical load possible,, then snap the throttle, will the belt skid? |
