ther are a few types that you can choose from the simple ones slide into the dipstick, others are a silicone rubber hear that is 120V, there is a large heater that mounts to the oil pand and usualy two others that mount to the side of the block. they have a 120V cord and usualy come with a large 3 outlet extention cord. check out jc whitney, summit, jegs hope this helps. Good luck in Alaska
THANKS TO ALL WHO RESPONDED. I HAVE BEEN TO ALL OF MY LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORES HERE IN SOUTH TX. EVERYONE I HAVE SPOKE TO IS STILL SCRATCHING THERE HEAD. ADVANCED AUTO, AUTO ZONE, O'REILYS. I HAVE EVEN CALLED JEGS, SUMMIT, AND AM WAITING ON A JC WHITNEY MAGAZINE THAT I ORDERED.
Bullitt94- THANKS FOR THE WEB PAG, THIS HELPS ALOT. NOW SINCE I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BLOCK HEATERS, WHICH KIND IS THE BEST? I HAVE BEEN TOLD TO GO WITH THE FREEZE PLUG TYPE.

Any thing that will keep the oil from freezing/thickening will do the trick.
My wife had a car that would get hard to start in the winter (we can get down to -25 at times here) and I used two magnetic small engine block heaters on her car's oil pan. The car started right up.
If you plan on moving in the fall, when you get up there you will be able to go to an auto service center to get one installed. It's a pretty common thing for people to do in the fall in the colder states.
