Default Check engine light does not work

The only reason I know it doesn't is because of an emission test I had done in Colorado. Is it powered by a fuse or relay? Also, my odometer is a digital one and only shows maybe half the time, but when it does, it appears to still be keeping track of mileage. Any thoughts? Other than these two things my 99 Lariot is awesome, hope to have it a long time.

It is possible the bulb is burned out for the check engine light. You need to remove the instrument cluster to check it. Unless you have really small hands and can fish them up behind the dash. As far as the display, if the wiring is secure behind the instrument cluster, the display is starting to fail.
