Default Check Engine light questions

I have a '92 F150 with a 302, the check engine light comes on if it is allowed to idle and in slow city driving. The engine seems to continue running fine but I would like to find out what causes this. I dont have a code reader, so is there anything I should check to start tracking this down?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Having the code first would be a big help.. Some of the parts vendors like Autozone ect. can read the code at no cost..

Thanks for the reply.

I suppose the code would only show up if I had it read whyle the light is on right?

No, the computer will store the code and it will be read when the codes are pulled.

My '90 has similar symptoms, too. It came back with an oxygen sensor code and an EGR code. Both are pretty common with check engine lights.

Where can the code reader terminal be found on a 1993 F150 5.0? My check engine light comes on after about 3-4 miles of driving. PCV valve is fine, and K&N filter juast serviced. Thanks for any help.

Look on the driver side under the hood. I should be on the side of the fuse box (from my memory it is a fuse box). It is easy to find if you know what you are looking for.
