Clutch Kit
 

I have a 2000 FORD F-150, 4x4, 4.2L V6, 5 Speed manual. I think I put the slave cylinder out of it just yesterday I lost all the pedal and unable to shift when truck is running. So I am planning on replacing the Slave and since I will have it apart I was going to replace the clutch with a new clutch kit as well. But I have been pricing and found a few places online that are alot cheaper but they claim to be a non self adjusting clutch kit. Can anyone tell me the difference between a non self adjusting and a self adjusting? Which one would my truck have and which one should I go with? Also if you have one or the other does it matter which one you put back in? Talked to the dealership to try and get some info on the differences they have no idea never heard of such a thing go figure. Thanks for your time.

your truck has a self adjusting clutch in it. i have put in a few aftermarket (ie auto zone napa) and they never last as long as a motorcraft one. i always try to get prople to install a ford kit and pay the extra money because it will last longer. i would think that a non self adjusting clutch would not last as long as a self adjusting one. a ford pressure palte has wear grooves in it to adjust

is it fluid issue in clutch system?(check throw out bearing piston and slave cylinder) or is it synchro issue in transmission when it is running?


you mentioned that you cannot shift while truck is running?? does it appear to work when engine shut off? make sure you didnt lose synchro in transmission....

make sure you examine the throw out bearing piston underneath for leaks..if area around clutch throw out bearing piston is dry you should check your actuator piston(slave cylinder).

Remember...to operate the clutch your clutch pedal pushes in a piston at your firewall...then the throw out bearing piston pushes the clutch in with the resulting fluid pressure.
