Sounds like the 'key in ignition' sense is creating the chime tone, not door ajar. With the key 'out' of the ignition and the chime tone active, try and 'slightly' rotate or rock the ignition lockset back'n forth. If the tone stops, the key sense is the problem. Really common for the 'plastic' mounting tang to break (just slides onto the lockset bore) and the small brass grounding prong to then short causing the failure and tone. The ignition lockset has to be removed and the column covers pulled to check. If it is broken, Ford doesn't offer a repair pigtail (its a single wire circuit) and the air bag clockspring has to be replaced. Or,, if your really not too worried about the key sense, you can just tape the connector plastic, or cut off the end, and move it away and down from the ingition into the space below, replace the lockset and covers and go without. Does the 'wing' portion of the lockset seem loose or rotate slightly or excessive with the key removed? If so, it can cause the sense issue as well..
