F 150 timing belt info please

I have a 2004 F 150 with a 5.4 when i start it in the morning it almost sounds like a diesel and runs rough until it builds oil pressure after that all is well. I have been told its my timing chain tentioners going bad has anyone else heard of this . How hard is it to fix .

First your vehicle has timing chains, not belts. The tensioners are not an easy or quick job if you are not familiar with it. There is a good possibility it is the VVT (Variable Valve Timing) solenoids in the valve covers. Look to see if there is a wiring connector going into a thing close to the front of the valve covers. Too lazy to look up to see if it has them on that year. Could also be injectors leaking down when it is shut off.

Is there any place on this forum where a guy can down load some repair manuals ? And how do i check the VVT solenoids if it has them. Is there a way to check the injectors?

AutoZone Auto Parts Stores | Motor Oil, Exhaust Systems, Suspension Parts, Car Starters, Car Stereo, Radiator Hoses, Headlights, Car Accessories, and More - AutoZone.com has repair info. They own Alldata and have pretty much the same info there as in the online repairs. It is free and if they have pretty good info.
