F150 dash and taillight problem -having trouble finding part#???
 

Hello Ford Forum,

I stumbled across this forum while I was trying to figure out a part #.

I own a 1994 F-150 2x4. Last year my dashlights and tail lights were "shorting out".
I would wiggle the light switch and they would come back on. So I replaced the light switch and noticed the wiring harness that clips to the light switch was a little burnt. Well I put the dash back on and I hadn't had any problems until recently.
So I went and got a new switch and put it in, but this time the lights still do not work. The wiring harness has become brittle so I can only assume that is the problem.
So if any of you have had any problem like this please let me know. I'd like to know the part # of this harness so I may find the part over the internet.
I suppose I could go to a yard and pull one out but if I could prefer to order online due to time issues.
Also if you can tell me what other years are compatible with the 1994 I would really appreciate it.


PLEASE HELP. I'm getting tired of everyperson at the stoplights saying, "Hey buddy! Your tailights aren't working"

I think your best option is to go to a savage yard and cut the connector out, take the light swtich with it, and slice it in yours.

I have a problem with the wiring at the back of my 1994 f150 is there a place i can get a partial harness that i could replace the wires up to the sockets turning into a weekly fix

A lot of auto supply stores carry the sockets you might require. Then you can just replace them one at a time as required. If necessary to replace some wiring also be sure to use shrink butt connectors that can be heated and will seal the connections from any moisture. That will usually effect a permanent cure and a stronger splice. Depending on how many wires you will be splicing, the RED connectors are for 16 ga wire, Blue for 12-14 ga wire and yellow for larger wire. There are connectors available to join 2 wires to one wire also. Do it right and do it once.

You need to be a little careful when you add additional loads on to lighting and signal light systems. The fuses are chosen to protect the system as built. Unless the vehicle has a special place to tap into for additional electrical loads (trailer lights) depending on how many lights you add could exceed the rated fuse for that circuit.

thanks I believe the truck had an additional connector at the back ...well it did 2 decades ago,I may have to put some more thought into this yet.btw thanks this looks to be a great site for info
