Default ignition lock mechanism

I have a 1989 F-150 standard. The problem I have is that when the weather gets down around 30 degrees, the ignition switch is so hard to turn it's unreal. I imagine that the grease in there has hardened. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this, and if so how might I remedy this without pulling the switch? I had to drag an extension cord and hair dryer outside to thaw the rat this morning. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx!
