Starting Issue
1977 f150 460 4X4 Hey guys, hoping you can shed some light on my problem! Yesterday I was flushing the radiatior, I got my distributor wet, I cranked for like 10 seconds and stopped. I let the starter cool off and cranked for another 10 seconds, after I let off of the key the truck continued cranking so I pulled off the battery connections. than reconnected them, now it wont crank at all, since the starters are cheap, I replaced it, still wouldn't start, I checked over the starter solenoid, it works good, but i'm not getting power from the ignition switch. I jumped the solenoid and it cranked and fired than a second later the starter kicked in again while the truck was running! It made a horrible noise! where should I go now? Do you think I have 2 seperate problems? All fuses are good.

your starter solenoid is shorted out it got way too hot just replace it and problem should be solved. the second thing is replace your cables if the got too hot then they may have melted the insulation and is toutching something they ain't suposed to
Replace the soloenoid even though i'm not getting 12 volts at the ignition wire at the solenoid??
do you have two wires on that are small or just one?
I have 4 wires, 2 big ones from batter too solenoid, solenoid too starter, than two small wires, one wire i'm assuming goes too the ignition coil, than the other small wire has a rubber boot that slides right on the post and that wire needs power too send power through the solenoid too activate the starter.
usually there was two little wires on the top of it they could be reversed now you may have blown a fusable link at on the battery side of the solenoid
There's no fusible links by the battery on this truck, previous owner has butchered alot, so I have alot too straighten out. I have checked all the fuses under the dash. Also, when you go too crank the key, battery voltage does drop. but voltage is not at the small wire at the soleniod. I am getting main battery voltage too the solenoid, just not getting voltage on the small wire too tell the solenoid too crank her over. Sorry if i'm being confusing.

Well problem solved. I had my wife but it in nuetral for something, and she put it in reverse thinking it was in park. Thanks a bunch. Hopefully the starter stays disengauged while running!
turn the key on like your going to start it and take a jumper wire and go from the solenoid down to the starter ! if it starts that way then change the solenoid !
