02 F250 Dreaded Dome Light Issue

Hi all,

I think I have read just about every thread on here about the dome light issue and nothing I have read or done seems to have resolved the issue.

I have an '02 F250 SD XLT supercab. When I open and then close the driver or passenger doors the dome light comes on and then stays on. It used to go off after a bit but now it doesn't. My battery is getting fully drained within 3 days now.

I replaced the burnt out bulbs on the doors for the courtesy lights today and now they won't go off either. The Door Ajar light does not come on, on the instrument cluster. The map lights go on and off as they should.

So here is what I have done so far:

1. Lubed up the door locks with WD40 like it was a thanksgiving turkey
2. Replaced the fuses with brand new ones
3. Replaced the accessory relay.
4. Taken the door panel off and lubed the locks from the inside, and checked for any broken wires I could see at the door hinge boot too.
5. Yes, even checked the dimmer switch was on and off.

I'm out of ideas. The only thing I can think of right now is to remove the bulb! If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks

-Aidan

I believe the problem lies in the instrument cluster that has modules which control the battery saver relay and the interior light relay. One of the components appears to be keeping the interior light relay energized. Unfortunately correction my require replacement /repair of inst cluster.
A Ford IDS scan tool should be able to verify this. Possibly any scan tool that can asses module health might be able to do this also.

Thanks

Thanks Hanky. Any of the scan tools I have aren't reading any errors but I'm going to take your advice and pop the cluster and have it sent over to the circuit board medics. Have a great weekend!
