1987 6.9 f-250 wiring diagram needed

I have a 1987 6.9 f-250. The previous owner did a hack job on the wiring. I have wiring melted and ground wiring getting hot. I can't find a complete wiring diagram I was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy one or download one.

Thank you
Jake

Welcome to the site Jake..

Is it the bulk head harness on over to the passenger side? Or? It’s vintage limits online schematics availability at least from Ford. Paper shop manuals were used back in the day. I sold off a full set of manuals on eBay a few years back, but I’ll check to make see if i have any coverage. I still have have CD/DVD data for different M/Y’s, mostly newer, but may depend on what/where you need is..
Looks like Rockauto has a Loose Leaf offering of the 87 Vacuum/ Wiring Diagrams 150-350..

The harness is on the driver side. I'm thinking about rewiring the whole truck. I've never done it before so it should be a hell of a learn process. I'm looking online to see if I can find a wiring diagram and if someone can make me a new harness

I just looked at the manual on rockauto and my only concern is that it will cover only the gas engines and won't cover the 6.9 diesel.

Thank you for helping I really appreciate it.

Ok so I found a wiring diagram. Just ordered it. Next thing is rewiring the truck. Do you think I should work with what I have or try and find a new harness and completely rewire the truck?. The guy before really went through the wiring and hacked it up. I'm not sure what I should do. I don't want to keep hunt down ghost in the wiring for years. But not sure what it would be like to rewire a truck.

You may be able to source a used harness, or sections from a dismantler.
I’d patch what’s there. But without eyes on,, maybe another avenue....
Cost and time wise, working with what’s there is usually the best bet. Wiring complete would be a large task and many ends, connectors, would need to be spliced since most aren’t available. Little to no wire color/tracer variations, confusing now, and later. I’ve done engine fire harness repairs, dash harness burns for a multitude of causes, lots of hack job cut away fix’s, and have used harness sections, or rewired the failed sections without issues..

What areas did he butcher?

I've worked on car and trucks but never super in depth and no electrical stuff. Trying to do it myself so I can learn. So sorry if I end up being a pain haha.

The whole dash is pretty much pullin apart. The guy before put a new fuel gauge(doesn't work) and a momentary switch for the glow plugs(don't work). There is a electric fuel pump he put a switch in the cabin to turn it on. All my head lights and brake lights work. Pretty much everything under the cab has been cut up and hooked up. I have ground wire off my battery's getting hot. This weekend after I move my truck to my new home I'll take pics. At least to give a better look. I'm probably confusing you but I'm a rookie.
Thank you for any help I truly appreciate
