1989 f250 460 efi

I am thinking of buying a mint 1989 F250 with a 460 and EFI. It only has 70,000 miles and seems to run ok now. I was wondering if there are any known problems that I might expect in the future. I plan on using the truck for towing. Thanks.

Welcome to the site..

7.5 is a good engine. They do like gas stations thou. EFI was more thrifty than carb versions, but that large displacement needs fuel..
What trans? 4x4?
Have any recent service docs? Being it’s low mileage, and/or if it’s sat for long periods, or it’s accumulated mileage was short runs, engine, trans, coolant services completed? Look it over, top to bottom. Any leaks? A/C work?
I’d make sure all the services are current, safety check belts and hoses as well.
Tire condition and age? Any rust or body issues?
I just had an 89 F350 7.5 here with similar mileage, was a ranch truck and mice had their way with the coolant hoses, chewed through some wiring, vacuum hoses, and nested in the heater plenum/cowl.
But when corrected, ran like a Swiss watch..
Have any images you can post up?

The truck is owned by an 88 year old gent who until recently only used it to tow a 5th wheel camper from NH to Florida in the fall and back again in the spring. A few years ago his wife died and he sold the trailer and only uses the truck to go to dump once a week now. The truck is rear wheel drive with a automatic trans. I don't know what the trans is. The truck is in southern NH but it has never been out in the snow. Here in New England unless a truck is almost new it has body rot and I can't afford $25K plus for a truck. I'm retired. He wants $4000 firm for the truck which I realize is a lot for a 30 year old truck but I was a mechanic for 30 years and I can do mechanical work. I do not want to try to chase rot around in a losing battle. This truck has no rot. One of my sons had to replace the rear axle assembly because the mounting brackets rotted off. I know nothing about Ford's EFI from that period so I wondered how dependable it was. Is there anything major with the drive train that I should be aware of?
